My Social Sales Tip is to “Google Your Name” This is a personal branding tip that applies to almost any business professional. Many of the people you connect with will “Google” you and your company before they engage with you and it’s always better if you show up on the first page of search results.

My social sales tip is to do a Google search for your name and company and then examine the results. Are you happy with what shows up on the first page? If you’re not satisfied with the amount or quality of information you see then build a Wikipedia page on yourself and your company, it’s surprisingly fun and simple if you follow the rules.

Wikipedia is one of the best third-party sources for ranking on page one of Google. Typically, when you search an intended keyword, you don’t have to scroll far before you see its accompanying Wikipedia page. Also, Wikipedia is a recognizable website, so it’s often one of the first pages someone will click on if they want to learn more about what your business does. Once you’ve built a Wikipedia page for yourself or your company it will show up each time someone Googles you in the future as a nice little side box in Google’s search results.

Be sure to follow Wikipedia’s strict guidelines or you may find your pages edited and possibly deleted. Here is a concise article on “How to Create a Wikipedia Page (Step by Step).”
