Bob’s Insights
In my opinion, of great importance in terms of approaching social sales is to understand that the principles of sales (and humanity) are the same as they’ve always been.
As I’ve stated as a basic premise for what seems forever, “All things being equal, people will do business with, and refer business to, those people they know, like, and trust.” The keywords are, “those people” — not “those computers” or “social media platforms.” In other words, ultimately it’s about the relationship itself, and how you cultivate those relationships through communicating immense value. On social media platforms, it’s through your posts (written or video), your responses, and your overall engagement.
This communication of value transpires through what you say, how you say it, and — more than anything — simply how you “show up.” Perhaps the best thing we can do before clicking the “send” key is to ask ourselves, “Is what I’m about to post, comment on, respond to, likely to provide value to the person(s) who will see it?” Indeed, understanding the specifics of the social media platform is important. Ultimately, however…it’s YOU they are “buying.”
