I think what many of us forget in the use of social media is that it is first and foremost social. That is, it involves building real human relationships. It is not human to begin to sell to someone the very minute you meet them. It is not human to give cryptic one and two-word answers. That’s grunting not conversing. And it is not human to assume the worst in others when they state an opinion we disagree with and vent our rage at them. Being human with social media means making real personal connections, nurturing those connections as our most treasured resource, generously providing value, and responding to people with whom we disagree with grace and compassion.
